Where do I start!!!!
Monday, 05 April 2010 22:19

Ok, I admit I am not very good at keeping this blog updated without my partner in crime! But here goes, it is going to be a long one!

Well the week started with BB being a madam as I wrote before, so luckily at the beginning of last week, think it was Tuesday, Jane had her back lady Kay down to see Mojo and Dougal and I asked her to have a look at BB just to give her the benefit of the doubt, we got her out the stable and she instantly noted that she was walking short in front on her right side and on rein back she was dragging her right leg, back to the stable and after a massage (of which BB enjoyed very much) Kay set to work on the problem areas, she managed to sort her back out and told me to keep her quite and calm and not work her for at least 2 days, should be easy enough with any normal horse but BB is certainly no normal horse! she has to have two stables as she is such a spoilt brat! one for the day and one for the evening! mad I know, but we find moving her during the day stops her from rearing, bucking and generally throwing herself on the floor when she feels she is missing out on attention. Wednesday we managed to keep her calm as the weather was so bad we had to keep all the horses in, Thursday was a lovely day and as all the horses were being taken down to the field BB completely lost the plot and went totally mental! not really the plan of keeping her calm! We had our dentist out "Rigsby" to see too all our horses and also quite a few of the liveries to, everything was fine until he got to our horses! BB was not too bad just sharp, but poor Vita and Bessie have two big wolf teeth that Rigsby said would be causing them a lot of discomfort, which is really sad as they are so sweet and have been going so well even through they must have been in a lot of pain.  Unfortunately I now have to get the vet out to remove the teeth as they will have to be sedated! so that is all booked although I could not get an appointment until the 13th! so Vita and Bessie are now going to have a month off. The weather turned again on Friday afternoon but luckily we had managed to get all the horses in before the down fall! Friday was really busy on the yard as most of our liveries were all starting the Easter weekend with 4 days off (lucky for some!) so lessons were going on in the school most of the morning, Friday was also the last day for Sarah our vet student who was with us for 2 weeks on work experience, Sarah was a great help on the yard and she really was a nice girl, we wish her lots of luck with the rest of her course and look forward to coming across her when she is a fully trained vet.  Saturday was just a day of working the yard although me and Darren did go down to Nando's for lunch thanks to Nina which after eating that much I really did not feel like doing much in the afternoon so I found a little sun trap outside the office on the bench and had a little lay down! Sunday after doing all the yard, Mel offered to walk Vita and Bessie in had around the yard, It turned out that Vita was very well behaved but Bessie decided she would walk Mel around the yard on her hind legs! We then decided as she was so fresh that we would give her a quick lunge in the lunge arena with only a head collar and lunge rein just to blow a few cobwebs. I then decided to be brave and tack BB up after her nearly having a week off, I knew she would be a little fresh and that she was, after a few bucks though she settled down and she worked really nicely with no naughty behaviour, so I think the back lady and dentist did the trick and we have the powerhouse back in great form. This morning (Monday) the sun was shinning so we decided to turn out BB, Bes & Vita for a couple hours and after a few gallops and bucks around the field they all settled and munched on the spring grass for a couple of hours, we also had our haylage delivered today and as it was bank holiday monday (any excuse) we treated ourselves to lunch at the local pub! I think that is about everything although I am sure I have missed loads out as my memory is like that of a goldfish, I am actually impressed I have remembered as much as I have!

Julian Update: Julian is currently up in the mountains just outside Durban somewhere (I think), with no telly, no phone, no nothing other then a BBQ in a lovely little cottage with Chad's family, they have been going on long walks (when I say they, I mean Chad's family!) Julian is resting not getting up most days till the afternoon and eating lots whilst being waited on hand and foot! (not really that different to when he is at home) the only time he walks anywhere other then to and from bed is when he is searching for a phone signal to call home and check all is well! He is going back to Durban tomorrow, then he is teaching Wednesday and Thursday at a jumping stables (so of course this holiday will not be a holiday as he has had to work, the fact that he has been doing pretty much nothing for two week prior will not count! - so I am sure he will be booking another one to recover as soon as he gets back!) ha ha he is going to kill me!

Anyway that's all until the next time (who knows when that will be)..............
